32 Looks Good on Me

Aging is a gift 🎁

Today I turn 32, my first birthday in Colorado.

I may be older (and hopefully wiser) but one thing that hasn’t changed throughout the years is my love of taking self-portraits in my bedroom. This time around my portraits were taken on Polaroid 600 film, which can be challenging when you are alone because you’re limited with what you can do without a self-timer on a camera.

Wanting birthday portraits of your own? Depending on your preferences and budget, there are several different options for you to consider:

1.) Professional photography session: Consider hiring a professional photographer to take birthday portraits. This can be a great way to get high-quality, artistic images that you can treasure for years to come. Look for a photographer who specializes in portrait photography and has experience working with the editing style you are wanting. Want to hire me? Contact me at eefriskephoto@gmail.com ✨

2.) DIY photoshoot: If you're on a tight budget or want to take control of the creative reigns, with a little creativity and planning, you can take the birthday portraits of your dreams. Set up a DIY photoshoot using your smartphone or camera, and experiment with different lighting, poses, and backgrounds. You can also enlist a friend or family member to help you capture the shots you want. Personally (as we have learned above) I’m a huge fan of taking portraits in my bedroom. If editing your photos feels intimidating to you, you can always go the instant camera route.

3.) Studio portraits: Some photography studios offer specialized birthday portrait sessions, complete with backdrops, props, and professional lighting. This can be a fun and convenient option if you want a more polished look for your photos. If you’re struggling with style and ideas don’t worry, the professionals are there to help!

4.) Outdoor photoshoot: Consider taking your birthday portraits outdoors for a natural and relaxed vibe. Look for a scenic location, such as a park, beach, or garden, and plan your outfit and props accordingly. I suggest choosing golden hour or blue hour if you’re wanting dreamy lighting! Regardless of which option you choose, be sure to plan ahead and communicate your vision to your photographer. And most importantly, have fun and enjoy the process! I hope that no matter what age you’re celebrating this year, you’re still making art. 🥰

In honor of my birthday go make a wish and please eat a giant piece of cake! 🎂
